Our counselors here at GCC are Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Psychologists, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers. All are licensed by provincial states and government regulating bodies.

Ian MacDonald, LMFT, LCAS

As the owner and clinical director of the agency, I have had the privilege of working alongside a truly outstanding group of mental health providers here at Goldsboro Counseling Center.  Since my arrival in 2020, I have grown to admire their attention to professional ethics, their display of respect and understanding, as well as their commitment to the therapeutic process.  In my role as the clinical director, I provide clinical oversight, and compliance monitoring while guiding the agency forward through a rapidly evolving landscape of healthcare.

As a provider, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Clinical Addiction Counselor.   I provide substance abuse and mental/behavioral health counseling for children, adolescents, adults,

couples, and families. I work from a relational perspective using an understanding of the generational and systemic processes that affect our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. When treating couples, I find emotion-focused therapy to be especially effective addressing repeating patterns that contribute to relational distress and conflict.   I also rely on acceptance and commitment therapy as an evidenced-based treatment for individuals seeking recovery from drugs and alcohol or relief from unhealthy obsessions and compulsions.

Shannon V. Weeks, LCMHC

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, mainly working with older adolescents and adults of all ages. I enjoy working with pregnant and postpartum moms. I received a Bachelor's degree in Family and Community Services/Child Development from East Carolina University in 1999 and a Master’s degree in Counselor Education from East Carolina University in 2007. I worked for 10 years with the Partnership for Children of Wayne County,  have counseled students at the community college level, and have worked in private practice since 2010.  I use an eclectic approach to counseling, using mostly principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy to tailor to individual needs.

Jennifer Cox, LCMHC, LCAS

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with a passion for helping people navigate life’s challenges and create meaningful change. I earned my Masters’ degrees in Rehabilitation Counseling and Clinical and Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University in 2009. Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, from residential treatment programs to outpatient clinics supporting individuals at different stages of treatment.  I provide counseling services for adults, adolescents, couples, and families, addressing both mental health and substance use concerns.

My approach is rooted in evidence-based cognitive-behavioral principles, but I always tailor my work  to fit each person’s unique needs and goals. Above all, I strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered.

Some of the therapies I draw from include Solution-Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.  Also, I love to let my personality and humor show in therapy.  I am a goofball, an avid reader, and an animal lover.
